What are the school start and end times?

Regular School Hours: 7:40 a.m. – 1:55 p.m.

Early Release Mondays: 7:40 a.m. – 12:55 p.m.

 

What are the school office hours?

 

Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

 

What do I do if my child will be tardy?

 

Students arriving after 7:40 a.m. must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to the Main Office for official sign in.

 

What is the morning drop-off procedure?

 
Morning car drop-off runs from 7:10 a.m. to 7:35 a.m. (The first bell rings at 7:35 a.m.,
and class begins promptly at 7:40 a.m.) Please use DeLeon Street, located in front of
the school, for drop-off. Parents may escort their child to the front gate, but anyone
entering the school grounds must sign in at the front office.
 
What is the afternoon pick-up procedure?
 
Car pick-up also takes place on DeLeon Street. Each car rider will receive a personalized car tag with a unique number. When the number is entered into our system, the child’s classroom will be notified to prepare for dismissal. Kindergarten students are dismissed from the patio area outside.
 
How are walkers and bikers dismissed?
 
Walkers and bikers are dismissed at the same time as car riders. Walkers should be
picked up at the designated walker pick-up area on the opposite side of the road in front
of the school. Bikers exit from the same location as car riders and walkers.
 
What is the school's dress code?
 
Gorrie Elementary is a non-uniform school, but we do have dress expectations:
 Shorts must be mid-thigh length or longer and can be made of any material.
 Shirts should not expose the stomach or be longer than the shorts worn.
 For safety, Crocs, sandals, and flip-flops are not allowed.
 Clothing with offensive language or images is prohibited.
 
Does the school provide breakfast?
 
Yes! Breakfast is free for all students and served from 7:10 a.m. to 7:35 a.m. If a child
arrives late, we will still provide breakfast if needed.
 
When is lunch served, and what are the lunch options?
 
Lunch periods vary between 10:00 a.m. and 1:15 p.m., depending on grade level. You can view the lunch menu and prices here. To prepay for lunches, please create an account at MyPaymentsPlus.com.
 
Can I volunteer at the school?
 
Absolutely! We welcome volunteers of all kinds, whether for long-term projects, short-
term tasks, or even spending 30 minutes helping in your child’s classroom. To
volunteer, a completed Y.E.S. form must be on file with the school. Please allow a
few days to one week for processing.
 
Is after-school care available?
 
Yes, Gorrie partners with several after-school care providers. The YMCA offers on-site
care, and other organizations such as the JCC, Martial Arts Advantage, and Seaborn
Day School provide pick-up services. Please contact these organizations directly for
more details.
 
Does the school have a PTA or Foundation?
 
Yes! Gorrie Elementary has an active PTA and the John B. Gorrie Foundation. Learn
