Events at Gorrie

Gorrie hosts many events throughout the school year to strengthen ties with teachers, students and parents – and, most importantly, to promote engaging academic opportunities.

Below are some of the larger events we hold, with some being decade-long traditions. Please note that some event dates for the 2022-2023 school year are still TBD and will be posted as soon as they’re solidified!

Literacy Night

Gorrie Elementary School will host a fun night filled with many activities where families and teaching staff can show students the value of reading and learning.  It’s a great night to help support and nurture our young readers. All grade levels are encouraged to attend.

Fall Festival

Every Fall, Gorrie throws an annual carnival on campus to celebrate the many fun traditions that come with the season. It is a community favorite event, and one of the best nights of the year!

Math Night

A night to celebrate Math.  Located at our local Winn Dixie students will work on a set of grade specific math problems as they move around the grocery store. A fun way for students to practice their math skills in the real world. All grade levels are encouraged to attend.

Science Night

Science Night is an evening of hands-on science activities for all students and their families to do together.  Hosted at Gorrie elementary school Science Night combines science learning and family bonding within the school community.   All grade levels are encouraged to attend.

Teacher Appreciation Week

Since 1984, National PTA has designated a week in May as a special time to honor the special men and women who lend their passion and skills to educating our children. During this week, we provide our incredible Gorrie staff (teachers and faculty) with catered breakfasts and lunches, cards, flowers and gift cards to show how appreciative we are.

Great American Teach In

In celebration of American Education Week, members of the community are invited into the classroom to share information with students about their career or hobby, to organize an activity, or to read a story. The teach-in introduces our students to career options they might never have considered, hobbies they may never have discovered, and activities they may never have participated in.

Art & Music Show

In the Spring, the students of Gorrie get a chance to showcase their art projects to families and the community. Students spend months preparing their artwork and projects. Then, their artwork is framed and available for purchase. The Music department has many student numbers throughout the evening, and students get a chance to sing or play strings for the audience.
