From the Principal’s Desk
Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year!
Despite the heat, August is my favorite time of year as it marks a time for new beginnings. Classrooms abuzz with excitement and new energy as our students and teachers prepare for another fantastic year of learning. Our staff has spent this past summer recharging their batteries, retooling their skills and recommitting to academic excellence.
We are proud that Gorrie has been rated an A school for 18 years! This year will be no different as we continue to nurture the dreams and aspirations of our students by providing an atmosphere of continued academic excellence. As Eleanor Roosevelt so eloquently stated,
"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams."
This year's school-wide theme is Kind = Cool! Our staff will focus on the importance of teaching and promoting kindness to our students. We believe that kindness is ultimately a contributor to happiness and is a quality that can be contagious. By starting a kindness campaign, we hope to raise awareness and establish a foundation for kindness, compassion, understanding and respect in our school leading to a heightened sense of belonging, increased peer acceptance, reduced levels of stress, increased feelings of gratitude, improved concentration and performance levels and a decrease in bullying.
Our other focus this year is increased communication. We have a new and improved website and weekly newsflash to keep parents abreast of the latest happenings at Gorrie. In addition, be sure to like our Gorrie Facebook page and follow us on Twitter @HCPSGorrieES.
Lastly, please consider taking advantage of the many volunteer opportunities available at Gorrie. I feel blessed to be surrounded by such an excellent group of parent volunteers. Children love to see their parents working around the school!
